Time for a change

I've had long hair since forever and I think its time for a change. I've been saying this for years now, but every time I go to the hairdressers I end up getting just a few inches taken off. I had a fringe a while back and I really liked it, but I have an annoying cow lick so it never really sat right unless I straightened it.

I'm wanting a major change, and I'm thinking I'll go for a length where the hair sits just on my shoulders, or maybe a little shorter.

My current hair:

Some hair inspiration:
How cute does Alexa Chung look? I wish my hair was naturally wavy but I'm thinking I may have to make friends with my hair straightener and create some loose waves.

I'll let you know how it goes! I think I'll get just the length taken off for now, and make a decision later on about whether to bring back the fringe or not!

South Island: West Coast

Some more pics from our trip up the west coast of the south island here in New Zealand. I can't help showing off our beautiful scenery! Going back through these pics makes me want to pack up the camper and head away again! Although it would be a very different trip now that its winter here... ahh I miss summer.

Lovely spot for breakfast

Keen to hit the road again

The Hokitika Museum (and a very small me)

On-the-road treats:

The Punakaiki Rocks/Pancake Rocks and blowholes

Remote West Coach beaches:

Typical West Coast scenes
Firing up the kettle

Beautiful picnic spot

23 before 24: Update

1. Learn to make macarons
2. Do some volunteer work
3. Get my full driver's license
4. Be comfortable driving a manual, and drive through a city (nearly there!)
5. Develop a regular exercise routine (working on this one)
6. Have one technology-free day a month
7. Spend more quality time with the husband
8. Read four books (I've read one)
9. Reach more people with my blog
10. Achieve a better balance between uni, blogging and down time
11. Become a better housekeeper
12. Develop a more structured routine for running the house 'stuff'
13. Do things straight away
14. Start running.  I don't plan on running a marathon or anything, but I would love to be able to get out and go for a short run
15. Do a few cool DIYs for the house
16. Smile more
17. Be a little kinder to strangers
18. Visit a place I've never been
19. Get a new hairstyle
20. Keep a fitness diary
21. Stay in touch with out-of-town friends more regularly
22. Stop biting the skin around my nails
23. Go swimming in the sea (wouldn't dream of doing this at the moment!)

Oh gosh, I've only achieved five of these so far! I'll be working on the fitness goals this month, and I'm thinking about a new hairstyle so that might happen soon too. Now that I've finished exams I will have more time to read, and maybe finally try my hand at macarons. Its good to look back at these and be reminded of the goals I made, like 'be a little kinder to strangers'. I think I'll have to put a little note on my fridge, or something, so I'm reminded every day.

How are your goals coming along?

Time to run?

I went for my first ever run today! I have been thinking about getting in to running for a while now, some nights I think "I'll definitely go for a run tomorrow", then in the morning its far too easy just to stay in bed. But this morning I did it, I got out of bed, before 7am, on a cold and frosty SATURDAY! Who does that? I ran a bit, huffed and puffed, got cold ears and walked my way back to bed.

I've decided to commit to a Couch to 5K programme, starting the week after next, when all my exams are done. I can't see myself actually running 5K, but my personal goal is to be able to get out and run for 20 minutes without stopping. At the moment, I love walking but I find that I just don't have the time to walk enough that it becomes a good workout. This way, I plan to get into the habit of going for a 20 minute run three times a week, which won't take as much time out of my day as walking. Hopefully I can stick to it! Now I just need some fluffy earmuffs to keep my ears warm!

I'll keep you all posted. Feel free to leave me some tips/inspiring words!

DIY Ideas

I'll be finished with my exams soon so I'm looking for a few DIY projects to do, to liven up our home. Its on my list of 23 before 24, so I've been looking for some ideas on Pinterest. Hopefully I'll be able to get started on some projects of my own very soon!

Here's what I have my eye on so far:

Love this pretty tin, and I love the idea of recycling pallets.

Since we live in such a small place, I'm always looking out for cute and practical storage solutions.
3/4

How pretty are these fabric covered coathangers, and this lace chandelier?
5/6

Love the idea of making something plain into something pretty using fabric or paper:

Have you done any DIYs lately? Leave me a link!

Weekend getaway

Recently the hubby and I had a lovely weekend getaway to Wellington. We had lovely Autumn sunshine and NO WIND so it was such a pleasure to stroll along the footpath in Oriental Bay. Anyone from New Zealand will know how lovely Wellington is on a good day (there is even a song about it!) and how rare it is to have a still day with no wind.

While we were there we shopped up a storm (new outfit for hubby, nothing for me!) and wined and dined at our favourite haunts. We also caught up with some friends and took a drive around the bays.

It was so nice to get away!

Frosty morning

I  love waking up to a frosty morning when my hubby has lit the fire for me and I get to spend an extra few minutes in bed.

It's the first frost we've had since we got Smudge and it was so cute to watch him walking over the crunchy grass!
