In the summertime

Its summer here in New Zealand, although we haven't had too many of those long hot days that just epitomise summer yet. I haven't done much blogging lately, but this is what I've been up to:

  • Having date nights. We love nothing more than snuggling up with a platter full of food and a nice glass of wine.
  • Gardening. This is the first year I've been in charge of the vege garden and I'm loving it! We are eating lots of home-grown strawberries and tomatoes at the moment.
  • We've been making omelettes most weekends with fresh veges from the garden, and eggs from a friend's hens.
  • Baking bread. Having a bread maker is so handy for making everything from loaves of bread to pizza dough, cinnamon buns and focaccia. Soon I'll be making hot cross buns again!
  • Buying new makeup. This year I'm on a search for my holy grail makeup products (and slowly becoming addicted to beauty gurus on YouTube).
  • I just bought a lion mane online for Smudge, can't wait till it arrives! I'm not usually one for dressing up pets but I just couldn't resist.
  • I've also been flying! My brother has his license so I've been lucky enough to see New Zealand from the air. That second-to-last picture is just one of many beautiful beaches we flew over.
What have you guys been up to lately? I have a lot to catch up on.

Smudge Saturday

I love watching Smudge play outside. Some days he spends all day curled up on my bed, and other days I barely see him at all! Oh to have a cat's life. If he's outside and he notices me watching him, he always runs towards me and tries to get inside. He doesn't really get the concept of windows! Such a treasure.

This weekend has started off really good. Date night with the hubby last night - we tried out dinner and a movie at a new cinema. The food was amazing and the cinema is straight out of the 1920's. It is available for hire, it would be so perfect for a Great Gatsby party!

Today we plan on doing some housework, taking a walk and maybe doing some baking - the best kind of Saturday.

What are your weekend plans?

South Island: Kaiteriteri and Takaka

Kaiteriteri

Takaka

These pictures speak for themselves, don't they? If you're ever in New Zealand, the Tasman region is a must visit.

South Island: Nelson

We rolled into Nelson early on a Saturday, and were lucky enough to come across a cute market! We stocked up on yummy fruit, and had a look around all of the other stalls. There were cute soaps in the shape of cakes and macarons, and delicious fudge (not made out of soap).

After the market we wandered around the town, looking at cute (but expensive) vintage shops and relaxing with coffee and cake. Perfect! Nelson is a lovely town and I'd love to spend more time there.

Smudge Saturday: Rockin' Out

What a crazy day. At lunchtime I was literally sunbathing, and now a few hours later me and Smudge are cuddling up by the fire. Typical New Zealand weather. Can't complain thought, it gave me an excuse to whip up some yummy baking (Luscious Lemon and Coconut Slice) and then sit around drinking tea while watching the husby finishing up painting the windows of our house.

Time for a change

I've had long hair since forever and I think its time for a change. I've been saying this for years now, but every time I go to the hairdressers I end up getting just a few inches taken off. I had a fringe a while back and I really liked it, but I have an annoying cow lick so it never really sat right unless I straightened it.

I'm wanting a major change, and I'm thinking I'll go for a length where the hair sits just on my shoulders, or maybe a little shorter.

My current hair:

Some hair inspiration:
How cute does Alexa Chung look? I wish my hair was naturally wavy but I'm thinking I may have to make friends with my hair straightener and create some loose waves.

I'll let you know how it goes! I think I'll get just the length taken off for now, and make a decision later on about whether to bring back the fringe or not!

South Island: West Coast

Some more pics from our trip up the west coast of the south island here in New Zealand. I can't help showing off our beautiful scenery! Going back through these pics makes me want to pack up the camper and head away again! Although it would be a very different trip now that its winter here... ahh I miss summer.

Lovely spot for breakfast

Keen to hit the road again

The Hokitika Museum (and a very small me)

On-the-road treats:

The Punakaiki Rocks/Pancake Rocks and blowholes

Remote West Coach beaches:
